so, the doctor tells me that i need to get more exercise, but everything i try to do, causes me pain. the state tells me that my license is suspended, so the next logical thing is for me to ask people for rides. everyone is more than willing to help, which is great, but i still feel bad asking all the time.
i'm a driver. i am meant to drive. sitting in the passenger seat is so frustrating. it's torture to be a passenger with someone who i asked to drive me somewhere, who drives the speed limit. it's been about 4 months now of not being able to drive, and as my car gathers in a cloud of dust in the parking lot, i get more agitated day by day.
so, in an attempt to get my mind off of it, i'm borrowing a bike to get some low-impact exercise. i figure, i can save my friends' gas (at $3.70 a gallon!) and get my sorry ass to work on my own.
so i start off this morning. turn out of the driveway to head to work, and realize that it's a bit windy. not breezy, but windy. and i'm pedaling into it. *groan* but i put the effort in, and 45 minutes later, i make it to work. my legs feel like jelly, as i haven't done anything with that much effort in months, but it feels good. i look on google.maps later in the day to find out that not only did i almost take their exact path (without consulting said map previously) but, my trip was 7.1 miles. which i guess is a lot for a first trek in at least a year.
now, only if i can keep it up.
